At the end of 2019, experts and decision-makers from the airport industry met in Munich, where Esterer presented its innovative products at inter airport Europe, the leading trade fair for the airport industry. The main focus was on the Esterer Smart Service App and proRefuel, our newly developed data networking system. Two electric-powered aircraft refuelers were the center of attention and the subject of intensive discussions at the exhibition booth. In his highly positive summary of the fair, Head of Sales Aircraft Refuelers Nico Hanemann says: “We are well ahead with our technologies, which are attracting a lot of attention. We are proud that the world’s biggest aircraft refueling companies, such as Shell, BP, Total, WFS or Skytanking, headed straight for our booth with a specific purpose: to find out more about the innovations that Esterer has to offer.”

Esterer paves the way

Our company surprised trade fair visitors with a new booth design. To give visitors an idea of the impressive dimensions of our aircraft refueler, the dimensions of an 85 cubic meter tanker were marked on the booth floor with the characteristic lettering and symbols used on runways and taxiways. “That was the starting point for many discussions,” recalls Nico Hanemann with satisfaction. “The floor markings also symbolize our unique expertise in the construction of large tank vehicles!”

Smart Service App: faster, uncomplicated service

Esterer’s Smart Service App provides a direct, networked connection between customers worldwide and our service engineers. Trade visitors to our exhibition booth were able to find out for themselves how it works: they put on a pair of data goggles, went outside to one of our tank vehicles and communicated with a (fictitious) service engineer from our exhibition team. This is how it works: technical problems can be resolved immediately and simply by an Esterer service engineer via the app or data goggles—no waiting, no downtime! “Exhibition visitors were quick to recognize the added value,” says Nico Hanemann. “People were particularly impressed by the speech control function!” The app can already be downloaded in the Google Play Store and will shortly also be available for Apple devices.

proRefuel: Gap in the market successfully closed

“When we were developing proRefuel, we asked our customers about the areas in which sensor data are important for them. It was obvious that maintenance, efficiency and industrial safety play a key role, which was confirmed by visitors we met at inter airport 2019,” says Nico Hanemann. Esterer presented a short film that showed how the new service works. Whereas conventional software solutions only cover the areas of refueling and accounting, Esterer has pioneered the inclusion of all vehicle sensor data—which are then processed to comply with specific customer requirements. From next year, all aircraft refuelers that leave our factory in Helsa will be equipped with the new technology. proRefuel will be activated at the customer’s request.

Electric refueling: serial production has begun

Outside the exhibition pavilion, our customer Shell Aviation’s E-Refueler delivered bio-diesel nonstop—a process which normally results in engine noise and air pollution from exhaust fumes. “But all you could hear at the booth was the clicking of the dispensing meter,” says Nico Hanemann with a smile. “Our electric-powered refueler impressed our trade visitors. We exhibited the first prototype at the last inter airport Europe, and now—only two years later—serial production of our E-Refueler is already running successfully!”

Networking at a Bavarian Breakfast

In the morning, many visitors enjoyed an authentic Bavarian Breakfast at the Esterer booth, where they had the opportunity to do some networking among the pretzels, spicy Obazda cheese spread and Leberkäse meat loaf—washed down with coffee or, for added Bavarian authenticity, a large glass of ale. A highly successful alternative to the traditional evening get-together! Summing up, Nico Hanemann says: “inter airport Europe was a roaring success. We welcomed many old and new customers to our booth. Their enthusiastic reception of our innovations and vehicles was a reward in itself!”
